About Interstitial Art:
I’m Jess: art lover, mom, entrepreneur, and someone who has always felt most alive in spaces where artists and creatives are given a platform.
I was lucky to be exposed to fine art and creativity from a very early age. I grew up in a family that nurtured one of the most talented painters I know, my sister, Elizabeth Snipes, and that experience shaped the way I see art and its place in our lives.
In college, I pursued bachelor’s degrees in Arts Management and Studio Art, exploring the intersection of business and the arts. I was certain I would run a gallery or arts nonprofit one day. Instead, like many people, I accepted a great job in apparel that paid well and came with the ever-elusive benefits signals to any 23 year old that they are on the right path.
Throughout my career in apparel, retail marketing, and now as the owner of a marketing consultancy, I have naturally gravitated toward spaces where artists and creatives have a platform. I have often taken on the role of amplifying their voices and connecting people to art in their everyday lives.
Enter Interstitial Art: my baby, my passion project, and the result of a major midlife career shift. Not exactly a crisis, but close. More than anything, it came from the realization that I need art and creativity in my life every. single. day. I want to talk about art, share it, meet artists, and hopefully help create a new generation of original art collectors.
Interstitial has taken several forms over the years: a local gallery and event space, pop- up experiences blending art and wellness, and curated installations in public spaces. All of it was meaningful, but somewhere along the way, I realized I was drifting toward what I thought other people wanted to see and away from what genuinely made me happy.
This newest chapter is about bringing art back into my daily life and celebrating the lifelong relationships we build with original artwork. I will be photographing art and showing what it feels like to truly live with it, not just as decoration, but as part of the texture and rhythm of a home.
Am I an art expert? LORD NO! in fact I am terrible at citing historical events and remembering even some of my favorite artist's names. I don't have time to make it to every art opening and my life revolves more around school drop-offs, client meetings, and the occasional family road trip than stressing about . But the beautiful thing is I have learned to give myself grace and to appreciate every moment I'm lucky enough to spend with art. That is why I surround myself with it in my home.
The tagline for Interstitial is “the art of in between.” I have always been drawn to the small moments that happen while you are doing something else: cooking dinner for the kids, walking upstairs to begin your morning routine, drinking coffee or a glass of wine on the sofa, or gazing at the wall while talking to an old friend on the phone. Art changes with the morning light, midday sun, and the softness of a rainy weekend.
Living with art means experiencing it through all of these interstitial moments and building a life alongside the pieces you love.
My wish is that everyone finds their way to “the art of in between,” and that I can play a small role in helping them get there.
